In the 1972 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups commercial, a New York businessman emerges from his apartment building, toting a chocolate bar. At the same time, a sandy-haired kid is sitting at the bottom of those stairs, enjoying himself a mammoth jar of peanut butter. As the businessman goes to take his first step down the stairs, instead of finding concrete under his shoe, he finds a roller skate. He goes flying. Panicked, he reaches for the boy at the bottom to break his fall, but misses and goes crashing offscreen instead. Though he failed to save himself a bruised behind, he did manage to get his bar of milk chocolate lodged in that huge jar of peanut butter, to the discontent of boy and businessman alike.
The businessman goes on to exclaim: “You got peanut butter on my chocolate!”, to which the boy retorts, “You got chocolate in my peanut butter!” After a brief stare down, they both take bites of the new peanut butter and chocolate combo.
And much to the delight of them both, the happenstance pairing, turns out, is DELICIOUS. An iconic new candy bar is born.
When Benson Brewery moved in next door to our Benson shop a couple years ago, we never really thought that we’d end up stumbling into each other as the boy and businessman did that fateful morning in ‘72. But as fate would have it, we shared a passion for delicious local food and drinks with our new neighbors.
In 2015, we added Hardy Coffee Co. to our list of brands and with the help of master roaster, Nick Tabor, began roasting our own coffee. As it turned out, the cold-brewed version of our Benchmark blend was the perfect base for a stout beer, thus prepping the ingredients for an iconic collaboration of our very own.
By the hands of some expert beer and coffee crafters, The Brewer’s Duet Coffee Cream Stout was born. If you thought a Reese’s PB Cup was the perfect, unexpected union of flavors, wait until you sink into a barstool with a pint of The Brewer's Duet Coffee Cream Stout. With notes of coffee, chocolate, and toffee, this is a perfect dessert beer, a perfect comfort beer; the BDCCS is the beer version of, say, a Bliss Bakery Chocolate Guinness cupcake.
We got beer in our coffee, and we couldn’t be happier.
So get down to Benson Brewery and snag yourself a pint of Brewer’s Duet Coffee Cream Stout. And while you’re in the neighborhood, stop into Aromas and tell us what you thought of it. We here at Aromas + Bliss and Hardy Coffee Co. want you to have your cake and eat it too. And you can trust us: we know cake.
And we eat it, too.
